Admirals Lose in a Shootout

Nov 19, 2010

Milwaukee’s five-game winning streak came to an end Friday as the San Antonio Rampage defeated the Admirals in a shootout 4-3.

Milwaukee, however, did earn a point and now has points in seven straight games. The win was San Antonio’s sixth in a row.

In the shootout, three San Antonio shooters (Mikkel Boedker, Viktor Tikhonov and Matt Beaudoin) scored while Milwaukee’s three shooters failed.

Down 2-1 after two periods, Milwaukee scored a pair of goals to open the third period and take the lead. Matt Halischuk notched his sixth goal of the year as he carried the puck from the left wall to the slot. His wristshot went through the legs of goalie Matt Climie at 2:02.

Milwaukee took the lead when Chris Mueller scored his third shorthanded goal of the season. Mueller blocked a shot from San Antonio defenseman Maxim Goncharov and went in on a breakaway. His low shot beat Climie to the glove side for his sixth goal of the season. Mueller now has five goals (three shorthanded) in his last three games.

The Rampage tied the game with a Tim Stapleton power play goal at 14:40 of the third.

The teams combined for three goals in a span of 62 seconds to finally get the scoring going in the second period. Pete MacArthur scored his second goal of the season at 17:07 of the period with a wrist shot after a faceoff in the left circle of the Admirals zone. Just 15 seconds later, Mikkel Boedker swooped from the right wing wall, through the crease, and tucked a shot into the net on the left post.

The Admirals finally got on the board at 18:09 of the second period when Michael Bartlett scored his first goal as an Admiral. Bartlett slapped the rebound of a Roman Josi shot past Climie. Ryan Flynn also notched an assist, his first professional point.

Dekanich broke the Admirals franchise record for most minutes without allowing a goal. The streak ended at 209:31. Chris Mason held the record with 183:47 shutout minutes in Feb. 2001. Dekanich entered the game with back-to-back shutouts and a streak of 172:24 without allowing a goal.

The start of the game was delayed nearly 45 minutes due to a hydraulic fluid leak on the Zamboni.
