Laakso Gives Ads the Win

Peoria, IL--Teemu Laakso scored the game winning at 2:17 of overtime to lift the Milwaukee Admirals over the Peoria Rivermen Sunday at Carver Arena, 5-4.
Laakso’s wristshot from the left point went past Peoria goalie Jake Allen, helped by a screen from Jon Blum. It was Milwaukee’s first win of the season in overtime and improved Milwaukee’s record to 13-7-1-4.
The Rivermen scored three goals in the third, both scored on the power play. Derek Nesbitt scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 12:43 and Nikita Nikitin added another just 13 seconds later to make it 4-3 in favor of the Admirals. Nathan Oystick tied the game with 1:39 to play in regulation with a shot from the right circle. It completed a comeback from a 4-0 deficit for the Rivermen.
Milwaukee struck first with a power play goal at 15:29 of the first period. With Peoria pressuring the blue line, Jon Blum passed the puck to the left circle for Jamie Lundmark. Lundmark quickly fed the right circle where defenseman Aaron Johnson was waiting for the one-timer. Johnson’s slapshot made it into the net for his fifth goal of the season, first on the power play.
Johnson made it 2-0 as he finished a two-on-one play for his sixth goal of the year. The teams were playing with four skaters aside thanks to penalties against Milwaukee’s Scott Ford and Peoria’s Ryan Reaves. Defensemen Blum and Johnson led the rush up ice. Blum fired a low shot from the right circle that goalie Jake Allen saved but he kicked the rebound right to Johnson for the easy putback. Blake Geoffrion, playing his first game since Nov. 7, also recorded an assist on the goal at 8:52 of the second.
Linus Klasen scored his team-best 12th goal of the season with an assist to Roman Josi. Klasen stickhandled around Rivermen defenseman Derek Peltier and swooped from the right post to the left to tuck in the goal at 11:19 of the second period. Peoria’s captain, Dean Arsene, was penalized after the goal for unsportsmanlike conduct. On that power play, Milwaukee scored its fourth goal with Blake Geoffrion’s first regular season goal of his career. Klasen and Johnson recorded the assists.
Peoria got on the board when Oystrick finished a nice passing play at 12:34 of the second period.
Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 31 of 35 shots to earn the win.
