Hilltoppers Top Ice Bears

Milwaukee, WI--The Marquette Hilltoppers and the Germantown Ice Bears kicked off the Milwaukee Admirals High School Hockey Showdown presented by the Bradley Corporation on Monday morning at Wilson Park. The Hilltoppers notched the win with a 7-2 decision over the Ice Bears.
The Hilltoppers got on the board 7:18 into the first period on a power play goal by Marquette forward Kevin Hannigan. Joe Washcovick passed the puck to Hannigan, who was positioned in front of the net. Hannigan put the puck past Germantown goalie Alex Crane to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.
At 8:58 of the first period, Marquette forward Will Podewils lit the lamp to give the Hilltopppers a 2-0 lead. Griff Jeszka and Ben Lowe recorded the assists.
Lowe recorded his second point of the game (1g, 1a) at 13:37 of the first period to put the Hilltoppers up 3-0. Podewils and Jeszka picked up the helpers.
The Hilltoppers increased their lead :43 into the second period to 4-0. Off a centering pass by Will Lake, Joe Sagadin slid the puck past Germantown net minder Alex Crane. Trevor Collins then came into goal for Germantown.
The Ice Bears responded just 30 seconds later, with their first goal of the game at 1:13 of the second period. Germantown forward Austin Haga fired a shot past Marquette goaltender Mike Roznik. Alex Farrell and Tyler Acheson assisted on the goal.
Jeszka racked up his third point of the game (1g, 2a) on an unassisted goal 1:21 into the second period, to give the Hilltoppers a 5-1 lead.
With 11:17 to go in the second, the Hilltoppers scored their sixth goal of the game. Off the rebound, Joe Llaurado put the puck past Germantown goalie Joe Sagadin. Hannigan picked up the assist giving him his second point of the game (1g, 1a).
At 9:11 of the third period, Germantown forward Dylan Krivoshein scored short-handed to give the Ice Bears their second goal. Tyler Acheson picked up his second assist of the game. Just 18 seconds later, Marquette’s Jack Mayer slapped the puck past Germantown net minder Trevor Collins.
Both teams play again Tuesday, December 28. The Hilltoppers play at Wilson Park at 11 am, while the Ice Bears travel to the Bradley Center to play at 12:06 pm.
