Klasen Completes the Comeback
Jan 15, 2011
Admirals forward Linus Klasen scored 29 seconds into overtime to give Milwaukee a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Manitoba Moose Saturday night in Winnipeg.
The win moved the Admirals record to 24-12-2-4. The 54 points accrued also moves the Admirals into sole possession of first place in the AHL’s West Division.
Klasen carried the puck into the Moose zone on the right wing before chipping the puck to Jon Blum at the circle. Blum flipped the puck to the net where it was deflected by Matt Halischuk to the left circle. Klasen blasted a slapshot inside the right post for his 17th goal of the season and the game-winner.
Milwaukee trailed 2-0 after the first period before scoring once in the second, once in the third and then the overtime winner.
Manitoba took a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game. Moose forward Sergei Shirokov was set up in the left corner. He tried to center a pass to the right post but it bounced off Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich into the net at :56 of the first period. The goal extended Shirokov’s points scoring streak to 12 games.
The Moose made it 2-0 when defenseman Kevin Connauton’s slapshot from the blue line deflected off defender Mark Santorelli’s stick past Dekanich at 11:07 of the first period.
Milwaukee’s production increased greatly in the second period. The Admirals accumulated just three shots in the first but fired 14 in the second with one putting the team on the board. Defenseman Scott Ford fired a slapshot from the middle of the blue line with Matt Halischuk, standing in front of the goal. Halischuk’s screen allowed the puck to go in for Ford’s first goal of the year. Klasen and Ryan Thang recorded the assists.
Defenseman Aaron Johnson tied the game at 2:21 of the third period as he followed a nice 2-on-1 passing play between Blake Geoffrion and Gabriel Bourque. As he got to the right circle, Geoffrion fed Bourque in the left. Bourque returned the pass but Geoffrion tipped it wide of the goal. Geoffrion followed the puck to the endwall and slid a pass to Johnson in the crease for the deflection over the left shoulder of goalie Eddie Lack. It was Johnson’s seventh goal of the year.
Dekanich finished with 30 saves to earn his 16th win of the season.
