Admirals Top Marlies in Day Game
Mar 1, 2011
Toronto, ON—The Milwaukee Admirals topped the Toronto Marlies for the second time this season with a 3-1 victory at the Ricoh Coliseum on Tuesday afternoon.
Gabriel Bourque and Grant Lewis each scored a goal and added an assist to pace the Admirals offense, while Mark Dekanich returned for his first start in nine days and stopped 31 of 32 shots to earn the victory.
Toronto took advantage of two early Milwaukee penalties to score a 5-on-3 goal just 3:19 into the first period. With Brett Palin and Lewis in the penalty box, Marlies forward Joe Colborne tipped a shot past Dekanich for a 1-0 lead.
Milwaukee’s Bourque tied the game at 14:22 of the first period with his 11th goal of the season. Lewis fed a pass from the left point to Andreas Thuresson along the left wing boards. Thuresson’s crisp pass went through the slot for a wristshot that sailed over the left arm of goalie Ben Scrivens. The goal was Bourque’s second power play goal of the year.
Milwaukee claimed the lead with just 1:12 remaining in the second period. Ryan Flynn stickhandled from the left corner in Toronto’s zone. It appeared he was going around the net. As he got to the left post, he flipped a pass to Mike Bartlett who jammed the puck past Scrivens for his sixth goal of the season. Flynn notched the lone assist.
Lewis scored on the power-play at 15:12 of the third period to ice the win for the Admirals. Gabriel Bourque and Aaron Johnson recorded assists on the goal.
