Dekanich Helps Ads Cruise Past Rivermen
Mar 13, 2011
Milwaukee, WI --After losing four consecutive games at home the Milwaukee Admirals came out victorious as they beat the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center. Two quick goals just 11 seconds apart from Admirals center Mark Van Guilder and winger Mike Bartlett helped Milwaukee break their longest home losing streak since March of 2000.
After 104 minutes and 36 seconds of being blanked by the opponent the Ads got on the board thanks to a heads up play from Kelsey Wilson. Andreas Thuresson battled for the puck on the near boards and Wilson came away with possession. Wilson took the puck around the back of the net and found Van Guilder positioned perfectly in front where he knocked in the pass at 7:35 to put the Ads up 1-0.
Off of the ensuing face-off and the Bradley Center still in a frenzy, Admirals captain Brett Palin found Bartlett who split the Peoria defense and got free on a breakaway. Bartlett raced forward and beat Peoria netminder Jake Allen through his legs to quickly put the Ads up 2-0. Aaron Johnson also picked up an assist on the play.
Late into the third period and the Admirals still holding onto their lead, Peoria winger Derek Nesbitt snuck one by Ads goalie Mark Dekanich to make it a one goal game. From the left point Akim Aliu launched a slapshot towards the net where Nesbitt re-directed the blast into the net for the goal at 17:47. Derek Peltier received an assist on the tally as well.
With under a minute to go Peoria pulled Allen for an extra attacker but could not find the equalizer as the Admirals defense held strong. Dekanich was again the backbone to the Ads defense as he turned away 31 shots to pick up his 22nd win of the season.
The Admirals win wraps up their three game homestand and keeps them atop the West Division standings with 83 points. The Ads will travel to Texas for contests against the Houston Aeros and San Antonio Rampage before flying home Saturday, March 19 for a game against the Lake Erie Monsters.
