Admirals Post Big Comeback Win
Mar 16, 2012
Cleveland, OH--Taylor Beck deked goalie Cedrick Desjardins to score the game-winning goal at 2:44 of overtime as the Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 5-4.
Scott Valentine held the zone at the left point. He was run into by a Lake Erie defender, but Chris Mueller backed up the play to hold the zone. He fed Beck in the bottom of the left circle. Beck skated toward the right post, stopped and went to his backhand for his 13th goal of the season.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Milwaukee. The Admirals outshot Lake Erie 42-25.
Lake Erie claimed the first lead of the game with 4:15 remaining in the first period. Monsters forward Peter MacArthur shot the puck from the slot off the facemask of Admirals goalie Jeremy Smith. The puck caromed to Patrick Rissmiller, who placed the shot just under the crossbar for his 11th goal of the season.
Milwaukee tied the game with 38 seconds left in the first period on a Victor Bartley power play goal, his ninth goal of the season (seventh on the power play). Beck passed the puck from the left circle to Mueller in the left corner. Bartley zoomed toward the right post and one-timed Mueller’s pass off the left skate of goalie Desjardins and into the net.
The Monsters grabbed the lead back when Greg Mauldin converted a 2-on-1 feed from Rissmiller at 3:04 of the second period.
Milwaukee fought back to tie the game with another power play goal at 6:49 of the second period. Beck fired a shot from the slot that was stopped by the goalie, but Brodie Dupont slammed the rebound past Desjardins for his first goal of the season and first as an Admiral. Teemu Laakso recorded the other assist.
Eric Hunter gave the Monsters a 3-2 lead with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot over Smith’s right shoulder at 2:45 of the third period. The Monsters made it a two-goal lead when Peter MacArthur scored a power play goal at 8:26 of the third.
Milwaukee trailed 4-2 with 6:17 to play when Scott Ford scored a shorthanded goal for the Admirals to make it 4-3. Kyle Wilson carried the puck from the Admirals end on the left wing to the Monsters circle. His shot trickled through Desjardins and Ford charged and pushed it in for his fourth goal of the year, first shorthanded tally.
The Admirals tied the game with another power play goal from Bartley at 14:31 of the third period. Mueller won the draw to Bartley whose shot beat Desjardins just four seconds into the power play.
Milwaukee finished the game with three power play goals in seven tries.
