Oklahoma City, OK--Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice to lead the Oklahoma City Barons over the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday night in Oklahoma City, 5-2.
The loss ended Milwaukee’s points streak at three games.
Milwaukee scored first when Daniel Bang knocked a puck out of mid-air past Barons goalie Yann Danis for his second goal of the season at 4:11 of the first period. Austin Watson recorded the assist, which extends his points streak to five games.
Barons defenseman Justin Schultz scored a power play goal at 16:08 of the first period to tie the game. Oklahoma City scored again with 48 seconds left in the opening stanza with a goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to take a 2-1 lead after the first period.
The first period saw the teams accumulate a combined 15 penalties for 64 penalty minutes. There were three fights and two players were assessed ten-minute misconducts.
Barons defenseman Taylor Fedun scored a power play goal at 5:47 of the second period to give Oklahoma City a 3-1 lead.
Milwaukee cut the deficit with a goal from Mattias Ekholm at 10:59 of the second. Gabriel Bourque played the puck from the left wing boards behind the Barons goal for Patrick Cehlin. Cehlin tried a wraparound to the right post but the puck bounced away to Ekholm. The defenseman fired a shot from the high slot over the shoulder of Danis for his third goal of the season.
Oklahoma City scored twice in the third period. Curtis Hamilton scored a shorthanded goal at 12:03 and Nugent-Hopkins scored an empty-netter with 53 seconds left in the contest.
Milwaukee outshot the Barons 37-28.
The Admirals play the fourth game of a season long seven-game road trip Tuesday night in Chicago. The Ads aren’t home again until they host the Wolves on Friday, November 30.
