Admirals Earn Comeback Win Over Stars
Oct 26, 2013
Milwaukee, WI--Colston Sissons scored two goals in the second period to help lead the Admirals to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Texas Stars on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Admirals goalie Marek Mazanec stopped 27 shots to earn his second win in as many starts this year.
The win helped to extend the Ads point streak to start the season to five games (3-0-2) and also snapped a five-game point streak for the Stars.
Texas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first period, thanks to a pair of special teams goals. Curtis McKenzie started the scoring when he deflected a Travis Morin shot from the point past Mazanec at 6:05. Less than 90 seconds later Taylor Peters picked off an Admirals centering pass and fired a writster into the Milwaukee net.
Sissons got the Admirals on the board with his first of the night and third of the year just 3:25 into the second period. Mike Liambas put a shot on Texas goalie Cristopher Nilstorp, who could find the rebound and Sissons bounced on the puck just before his stick was tied up.
Josh Shalla tied the game up with just over four minutes left in the second when he was left wide open on the left post of Nilstorp and Mark Van Guilder was able to get a pass over to him before being hit by Stars d-man Jyrki Jokipakka.
Sissons gave the Ads the lead for good at 17:02 with his second of the period off a great center passing from Taylor Beck. Beck won a race for the puck in the far corner and chipped a backhand toward the slot, where Sissons was able to lift the puck over Nilstorp's stick.
Austin Watson added the insurance for Milwaukee 15:15 of the third period when he carried the puck into the zone and looked to pass before firing a snap shot that beat Nilstorp over his right shoulder. It was the first goal of the season for Watson and sealed the victory.
The Admirals and the Stars get right back at it on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm from the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
