Charlotte, NC--John Muse stopped 27 shots to lead the Charlotte Checkers past the Milwaukee Admirals, 4-1, Saturday night.
The Admirals lost for the third straight time on the road (0-2-1-0). Milwaukee has scored just three goals in its last four road games.
The Checkers scored the first goal of the game at 4:13 of the second period. Chris Terry’s slapshot from the right circle sailed over Magnus Hellberg’s glove and into the net to give the Checkers the lead.
Charlotte made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 13:13 of the second period. Zach Boychuk’s wrist shot from the right circle went through a screen and over the glove of Hellberg.
Justin Shugg gave Charlotte a 3-0 lead at 2:01 of the third period with a shot from the left circle.
Milwaukee needed video replay to confirm its first goal at 9:01 of the third period. Miikka Salomaki fired a shot from the high slot that cleared the right shoulder of Muse. Referee Terry Koharski signaled a goal, but the red light never turned on. After replay, Salomaki was awarded his fourth goal of the season. Colton Sissons recorded the lone assist.
Charlotte’s Aaron Palushaj added an empty-net goal with 44 seconds remaining to give the final score.
The Admirals conclude the current three-game road trip in Charlotte Sunday afternoon. The next home game is Friday, Dec. 6th when Milwaukee hosts the Oklahoma City Barons at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
