Hellberg Stymies Peoria Again
Mar 13, 2013
Milwaukee, WI--Milwaukee Admirals goalie stopped all 30 shots he faced to help lead the Ads to a 2-0 win over the Peoria Rivermen Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The game marks Hellberg's second consecutive shutout against the Peoria Rivermen and it was his third shutout in his past ten starts. This is also the first time for consecutive shut outs against the same opponent since Mark Dekanich did it to Houston in the 2009-10 season.
Initiating scoring in the game, Austin Watson intercepted an outbound pass from Peoria’s Mark Cundari; immediately after gaining possession, from the point, Watson fired a shot and Brad Winchester tipped it past Rivermen goalie Mike McKenna at 11:45 in the first period.
Although the Ads managed to take 19 total shots during the 2nd period, only one goal was scored from both benches. With 3:14 remaining in the 2nd, Mattias Ekholm spun towards the boards and used his stick skills to maneuver to the net and throw a shot over McKenna’s left shoulder. Ekholm’s goal pushed the Ads lead to 2-0.
The final period was scoreless. Hellberg maintained his strength against the Rivermen, despite facing 12 shots.
