Ads earn crucial points in Chicago
Apr 20, 2013
Rosemont, IL -The Milwaukee Admirals inched to the precipice of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena Saturday night.
Despite the win, the Admirals didn’t clinch a spot in the postseason. Because of Rockford’s win at Texas, Milwaukee needs one more point to clinch a berth.
Goalie Magnus Hellberg turned aside 27 Chicago shots to earn his 21st win of the season and fifth shutout of the year.
Mark Van Guilder gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead with just three minutes left in the first period. Mattias Ekholm held the zone at the right point and played the puck to Kevin Henderson in the right corner. Henderson swept a pass to the high slot where Van Guilder unleashed a one-time slap shot that found the back of the net. It was Van Guilder’s 14th goal of the season and was assisted by Henderson and Ekholm.
Henderson added an empty-net goal with nine seconds to play to seal the win. Ekholm recorded the assist.
The Ads will finish off their regular season with a visit to Peoria to take on the Rivermen Sunday at 5:05pm.
