Former Ads Teammates Battle For Stanley Cup
Jun 11, 2013
Milwaukee, WI—Former Milwaukee Admiral teammates Rich Peverley and Sheldon Brookbank will square-off in the Stanley Cup Finals as Peverley’s Boston Bruins play Brookbank’s Chicago Blackhawks with the sport’s most hallowed trophy on the line.
Peverley will look to become the first Admirals alum to win the Stanley Cup twice, as he was also on Boston’s championship team in 2011. If the Blackhawks win, Brookbank would be the 13th Admiral’s player to have his name etched on Lord Stanley’s Cup.
The duo played together in Milwaukee for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. They helped the team reach the Calder Cup Finals in 2006, where they fell to the Hershey Bears in six games.
Peverley played in 176 games over three seasons from 2005-2008 for the Admirals. He led the team in scoring during the 2006-07 season, averaging more than a point per game with 68 points in 66 contests and finished his Ads career with 168 points on 56 goals and 112 assists. The Guelph, ON native had 18 points (6g-12a) in 47 games with Boston this season and in the playoffs he has recorded a goal in 15 contests.
Playing his first season with the Blackhawks, Brookbank posted a goal and 21 penalty minutes in 26 regular season games and has skated in one playoff game. He played for Milwaukee in 05-06 and 06-07, captaining the team in his second season. Overall he played in 151 games for the Ads, totaled 88 points (24-64g) and 408 penalty minutes, and was named the AHL’s 2007 Defenseman of the Year.
Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals is Wednesday night in Chicago. Meanwhile, Grand Rapids holds a 2-0 advantage over the Syracuse Crunch in the Calder Cup Finals with game three also slated for Wednesday night.
