Admirals Fall in Wild Third Period

AHL All-Star goalie Jake Allen stopped 17 shots to lead the Chicago Wolves to a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday afternoon in Rosemont, IL.
The win improved Chicago’s record to 6-0-1-1 in the Amtrak Rivalry. Milwaukee fell to 2-3-2-1 against the Wolves.
The Admirals were outshot 13-3 in the first period but Milwaukee held a 1-0 lead at the intermission. Breaking out of the Admirals zone, Colton Sissons fed a pass to Miikka Salomaki at center ice.
Salomaki dished to Vinny Saponari on the right wing. Saponari sped past Wolves defenseman Evan Oberg and lifted a shot over the left shoulder of goalie Allen for his ninth goal of the season. Salomaki and Sissons recorded the assists.
Chicago tied the game with a Mike Davies power play goal at 2:25 of the second period. The goal was the first for the Wolves on the power play against Milwaukee in 32 chances this season.
The Wolves took a 2-1 lead when Mazanec tried a pass from behind his goal up the middle of the ice. Cody Beach intercepted the pass and deposited the puck into the empty net at 3:10 of the third period.
Chicago made it 3-1 when Jani Hakanpaa fired a slapshot over the glove of Mazanec just 18 seconds after the Beach goal. After this goal, Hannu Toivonen replaced Mazanec in the Ads net.
Colton Sissons brought Milwaukee within one at 4:07 of the third period. Joe Piskula jabbed the puck free on the left wing boards. Sissons retrieved it and skated into the slot then placed a shot beyond the glove of Jake Allen for his 19th goal of the season.
The Admirals play host to the Abbotsford Heat on Friday, February 21st at 7:00pm followed by a post-game concert from Cheap Trick.
