Admirals Fall to Monsters
Cleveland, OH--Goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 12 shots to lead the Lake Erie Monsters to a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Friday night.
The Admirals recorded a season-low 14 shots on goal in the game. Milwaukee hasn’t won in Cleveland since Jan. 19, 2012 when Milwaukee beat the Monsters in overtime, 3-2.
Lake Erie claimed a very early 1-0 lead. Andrew Agozzino finished a passing play when he received a feed in the left circle and tapped the puck past the right arm of Ads goalie Scott Darling.
The Monsters made it 2-0 at 7:21 of the first period when defenseman Matt Hunwick scored on a wraparound goal past Darling’s left skate.
Milwaukee got on the board at 14:18 of the first period. Simon Moser found Taylor Beck in the left corner. Beck skated toward the blue line and sent a pass to Joonas Jarvinen. The defenseman fired a shot that beat Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard high over his glove for his second goal of the season. Beck and Moser notched the assists.
The Monsters reclaimed a two-goal lead at 7:47 of the second period when Mark Olver scored with two seconds remaining in a penalty to Milwaukee center Mathieu Tousignant. The goal snapped a string of 22 straight penalties killed by the Admirals.
Admirals forward Mike Liambas scored his first of the season with 1:28 remaining in the second period to push Milwaukee within one goal. Zach Budish moved the puck from the left corner to Tousignant behind the Monsters net. Tousignant fed a pass that was redirected into the goal by Liambas.
Monsters defenseman Brett Clark scored an empty-net goal with 32 seconds remaining to ice the win for Lake Erie.
The Admirals play at Lake Erie again tomorrow night. The Admirals next home game is Monday January 6th at 7 pm against Iowa.
