Ads win 5-4 in SO vs. Hogs
Rockford, IL— Bobby Butler scored twice and goalie Anders Lindback stopped 39 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 5-4 shootout win over the Rockford IceHogs Sunday at BMO Harris Bank Center.
Milwaukee has played 16 games since Dec. 1 and nine have been decided in overtime or a shootout. The Admirals record is 5-4 in those games.
Butler’s second of the game was scored with 57.8 seconds remaining in regulation. It tied the game at 4-4. With Lindback pulled for an extra attacker, Emil Pettersson sent the puck to the front of the goal for Harry Zolnierczyk. Zolnierczyk pushed the puck off the inside of the right post. The puck then bounced to Butler along the goal line and he slammed it in for his 16th goal of the season.
The IceHogs had taken a 4-3 lead just minutes before. Tyler Sikura redirected a Matheson Iacopelli shot from center point through the legs of Lindback.
The game marked the sixth time Lindback has faced 40 or more shots this season. Lindback stopped one of two shooters in the shootout while Justin Kirkland and Zolnierczyk scored for the Admirals.
The IceHogs scored a power play goal to open the scoring at 10:35 of the first period. Tomas Jurco sent a wrist shot from the left faceoff dot over the left shoulder of Admirals goalie Lindback at 10:35 of the first.
The Admirals tied the game with a shorthanded goal by Mark Zengerle at 1:26 of the second period. Petter Granberg tipped the puck out of Milwaukee’s zone. Zengerle and Justin Kirkland forced a misplay at neutral ice and Kirkland shoved the loose puck to Zengerle for a mini-breakaway from the blue line. Zengerle shot over the glove of IceHogs goaltender Matt Tomkins for his third goal of the season.
Rockford reclaimed the lead at 12:07 of the second period. Defenseman Viktor Svedberg carried the puck toward the Admirals right corner. He backhanded the puck to the front of the net and Matthew Highmore deflected the puck past Lindback for his 17th goal of the season.
Milwaukee tied the game at 16:03 of the second period. Former IceHogs forward Cody Bass swatted a puck out of mid-air into the goal for his second tally of the year. Anthony Richard and Trevor Murphy recorded the assists.
The Admirals took its first lead at 1:10 of the third period with a power play goal. Bobby Butler was able to slap a loose puck from between the circles into the net for his 15th goal of the season. Harry Zolnierczyk and Emil Pettersson recorded the helpers.
Rockford tied the game at 3-3 when William Pelletier intercepted a clearing attempt between the circles in the Admirals zone. his shot was stopped but Tanner Kero potted the rebound at 5:28 of the third frame.
The Admirals will host the Cleveland Monsters Wed., Jan. 10 at Panther Arena.
