Milwaukee, WI– The American Hockey League announced today that Milwaukee Admirals center Colton Sissons will play for the AHL All-Star team at the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management scheduled for next month at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, NF.

In his rookie season, Sissons leads the Admirals and is tied for second among AHL rookies with 13 goals. He also paces the Ads in points (23), game-winning goals (4), power-play assists (6), shots (91), and multi-point games (4). The North Vancouver, BC native is one of two Admirals to have scored twice in a game (Oct. 26 at Texas) and one of three players with at least three points in one contest. He has posted at least a point in three straight games three times this season, including a season best five-game point streak November 9 through the 13.

One of just three rookies selected for the team, Sissons was drafted 50th overall by Nashville in the 2012 NHL draft. He completed his illustrious junior career with the Kelowna Rockets in 2012-13 when he served as the team’s captain and finished the year with 67 points on 28 goals and 39 assists and an out-of-this-world +43 rating.

Taking place just prior to the start of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament, the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic will see a team of American Hockey League All-Stars face off against Färjestad BK, one of the top professional teams in the Swedish Hockey League, in an internationally televised two-day event including a Skills Competition on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and the All-Star Game on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management will be the 20th edition of the modern AHL All-Star event, and the first to feature an international opponent. Of the 630 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since the event was reinstated in 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Daniel Briere, Ryan Callahan, Zdeno Chara, Jimmy Howard, Niklas Kronwall, Chris Kunitz, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Tuukka Rask, Pekka Rinne, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Cory Schneider, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza and Eric Staal.
