Ads Come Up Short in Peoria
Mike McKenna stopped 23 shots to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday night in Peoria, IL.
Peoria stormed out of the blocks and outshot Milwaukee 18-5 in the first period, but managed just one goal: a slapshot from the left circle on a rush by Rivermen forward Andrew Murray at 10:04.
Rivermen forward Adam Cracknell gave his team a 2-0 lead with a power play goal with only 1.5 second left in the second period. Defenseman Mark Cundari’s slapshot from the right point was deflected past Smith.
Admirals forward Austin Watson knocked a puck out of mid-air for his 13th goal of the season just 1:24 into the third period to get Milwaukee within one. On a two-on-one rush with Taylor Beck, Beck carried the puck to the right circle. His shot went wide but caromed off the glass behind the net to Watson at the left post. Watson slapped the puck into the net from just underneath the crossbar. Beck and Mike Moore recorded the assists.
The Rivermen scored the next three, however, to ice the win. Sergey Andronov scored on a penalty shot at 12:02 of the third period. Then Evgeny Grachev blew past the Admirals defense to score at 14:57 and Cody Beach deflected a shot from the right point at 15:58 of the third period.
Admirals defenseman Scott Valentine scored his third goal of the season with a shot from the right point at 18:44 of the third to close the scoring. The assists went to Joonas Jarvinen and Josh Shalla.
