Ads Bitten by Hogs in OT
Milwaukee-The Admirals lost to the Rockford Ice Hogs 2-1 in overtime after the Hogs Brandon Saad scored just 52 seconds into the extra period at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Saturday Night.
Overtime started with 3-on-3 play as both teams had a man in the penalty box. Saad got the puck off a turnover deep in the Admirals zone and beat Ads goalie Magnus Hellberg glove side.
Despite suffering the loss, Hellberg kept the Admirals in the game, finishing with 32 saves, many of them in spectacular fashion.
The first period was filled with saves and missed scoring opportunities. Hellberg had 11 saves, including one that stifled a 3-on-1 break for Rockford early on.
The Admirals were outshot but had the better of the opportunities as they had two shots ring off the post. The best scoring chance came from forward Jack Maclellan hitting a shot off the inside of the left post late in the period.
The defensive showcase continued through the second as the teams went into the final frame in a scoreless stalemate.
The best opportunity of the period fell to Rockford when a penalty shot was given at 5:24 after Victor Bartley hooked Brandon Pirri on a break away. During the attempt Pirri never got a clean shot off as he tried to backhand it glove side and sent it wide of the net.
Joonas Jarvinen broke the deadlock with less than six minutes remaining in the third period. Ads forward Ben Ryan took a shot that never made it to Hutton. The puck then bounced to Jarvinen, who was open at the side of the left circle, and he put it past Hutton before he could slide back to cover.
Rockford’s Jeremy Morin tied it up with less than four minutes to play in the game when Adam Clendening found him waiting backdoor at the top of the crease and slipped it past Hellberg, setting the stage for overtime.
