Aeros Fly by Admirals

Milwaukee, WI--The Milwaukee Admirals failed to end their current losing streak Wednesday night falling to the Houston Aeros by a final score of 3-2. The loss was the sixth straight for the Ads overall and the third consecutive at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Admirals started off the scoring on a stretch pass to Brad Winchester from deep in their own zone. Winchester tipped the puck deep and dropped a nice pass to Taylor Beck. Beck made another beautiful pass across the slot to Chris Mueller who slammed it home to put the Admirals up 1-0.

A minute and a half later as Houston was moving into the zone they made a long dump pass that David Mcintyre knifed over the shoulder of a sliding Jeremy Smith to even the game at one.

With under two minutes to play in the first period, Smith stood tall in the net to keep the game even, turning aside a Houston 2-on-1 opporunity. He stopped the initial shot and then slid across to keep the rebound out as well.

Houston took the lead at 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Jason Zucker, who took advantage of an Admirals turnover at their own blueline and beat Smith to the blocker side.

With 2:53 left to play in the second Ads forward Patrick Cehlin skated behind the net and fed a pass to Scott Valentine at the point. Valentine fired it on net and Austin Watson redirected the puck over the shoulder of Kuemper to even the game at two.

The tie score would be short lived as the Aeros regained the lead less than a minute later when Stephan Veilleux made a little drop pass to a crossing Nick Petersen who beat Smith five hole with a quick shot.

The score remaing that way, and with a minute remaining the Admirals had several opportunities to knot the game with Smith on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, but could not manage to get a stick on the bouncing puck to send it into overtime.

Winchester, signed by the Ads on Tuesday, proved to be effective in his first game tallying an assist and using his size as a punishing tool. Each team had four opportunities on the power play and failed to convert a single one.

The Admirals return to action on Friday night at 7:00 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center against the Oklahoma City Barons.
