Admirals Are Burned by Stars

Milwaukee, WI—The Milwaukee Admirals saw their three game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Texas Stars on Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center. The Ads outshot the Stars 35-24 on the night, but were stymied by Texas netminder Tyler Beskorowany.

The first period was up to beat as the Stars were the first to hit the buzzer. Stars forward Mathieu Tourignant posted his eleventh goal of the season at 7:23. Texas came with a strong attack into the Admirals zone from the former Admiral Brandon Segal. Segal skated hard towards the net and took a close shot at Admirals goaltender Mark Dekanich. Dekanich turned the puck away, but Tourignant grabbed the rebound of the loose puck and poked it into the net making the score 1-0.

The Ads responded to the Stars goal, as Jonathon Blum scored on a power-play goal at 13:49. The Ads had their special teams moving the puck into the Stars zone. Roman Josi led the charge towards the net as he pushed the puck to Matt Halishcuk, who then ripped a shot from the middle of the near circle which was blocked by Beskorowany on his right pad. The puck bounced out into the far circle where Blum dropped down onto one knee and let go a one-timer that past netminder Beskorowany to even the game at one.

In the second period, Sean Backman and the Stars broke the tie on a power-play goal at 7:34. The Stars had the same help just like their first tally as both Segal and Dan Spang assisted on the score. Backman received the puck from Segal in the slot and then fired a shot that was deflected under netminder Dekanich’s arm for the game-winner.

The third period had no scoring as Milwaukee took 12 shots on net. Dekanich on the other hand, turned away eight from Texas in the final stanza. The Admirals pulled the netminder for an extra skater, but the Stars defense held up until the final seconds of the game.

Also, when Josi assisted on Jonathon Blum’s goal, it gave him at least a point in 13 straight games. Josi’s streak is the longest by an Admiral since former Admiral Mike Santorelli picked up a point in 14 consecutive games from November 22 through December 19, 2008 and the longest streak in the AHL this season.

The Admirals head out on the road for their next two, beginning with a 7:05 pm start on Tuesday, February 22 in Houston. Milwaukee’s next home game is Friday, February 25 when they host the Chicago Wolves at the Bradley Center with a special post-game concert by the Dropkick Murphys.
