Admirals Bitten by Rivermen

Milwaukee, WI--Peoria Rivermen goalie Joe Fallon was sharp all night, turning away 29 of 31 shots, to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center.

Hugh Jessiman registered two helpers for Milwaukee, his seventh multi-point game of the season, but it wasn’t enough as Fallon backed the Rivermen to victory in his first game for Peoria.

Rivermen forward Brett Sonne gave Peoria an early 1-0 lead with Wacey Rabbit in the penalty box for tripping. Defenseman Justin Fletcher dished the puck to Julian Talbot who fired a low slap shot from the point. Admiral goaltender Chet Pickard was able to deny the attempt, but the rebound went right to Sonne who didn’t hesitate to put the puck in an open net.

Peoria struck again when Derek Armstrong carried the puck along the near boards, stopped just inside the blue line, and sent the puck to the far circle where Lars Eller hammered a one timer past Pickard to make the score 2-0.

The Admirals were held silent until they got a power play goal of their own just 1:28 into the second period. Hugh Jessiman skated around the Peoria net and unleashed a wrist shot off Fallon’s pads. The rebound sat in the crease and Dave Scatchard kicked the puck over to Jon Blum who went top shelf for his eighth goal of the year.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net until Rivermen forward Cam Paddock added another tally for Peoria with nearly six and a half minutes to play in the final frame. Adam Cracknell sent the puck back to the point where Fletcher drilled a slap shot over the Milwaukee net and off the glass. Unfortunately for the Admirals, the puck ricocheted right to Paddock at the top of the crease and he knocked it past the net minder to give the Rivermen a 3-1 lead.

With just 1:39 left to play Milwaukee forward Nick Spaling was able to beat Fallon, bringing the Admirals within one. Jessiman moved the puck behind the Peoria cage to Mike Santorelli who skated out and found Spaling open in the slot. Spaling ripped a shot Past Fallon’s blocker to give the Admirals life.

However, any hopes Milwaukee had of a comeback were erased when Paddock added an empty netter to make the Rivermen 4-2 winners.
