Jarnkrok Scores Two to Lead Ads to Win
Milwaukee, WI--The Milwaukee Admirals extended their winning streak to three after Friday night's 8-3 victory over the Rockford IceHogs at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Calle Jarnkrok, who was playing in his first game with Milwaukee, Colton Sissons and Mathieu Tousignant all scored a pair of goals for the Admirals, while Marek Mazanec stacked up well against the Hogs, saving 22 of the 25 shots fired his way to earn the victory.
Sissons got the Admirals on the board at 11:04 in the first period with his power-play goal on Rockford goalie Kent Simpson. From the left side of the blue line Bryan Rodney centered the puck to Taylor Beck who snuck one down ice to Sissons. Sissons beat Simpson stick side from the slot putting the Admirals up 1-0.
The second period saw five goals, four coming from the Admirals. Vinny Saponari recorded an unassisted and easy power-play goal 2:27 into the second after the IceHogs turned over a pass in front of the net. His 12th of the season put the Ads up 2-0.
Just over six minutes later, Miikka Salomaki extended the Admirals lead to 3-0. A blocked shot from Mathieu Tousignant deflected back to a crashing Salomaki who cleaned up the rebound for his 13th goal of the year.
Sissons recorded his second power-play goal of the night just under the 11 minute mark. The Icehogs found themselves down 4-0 when Filip Forsberg gathered the puck off the face-off by Sissons and passed it back to Bryan Rodney. Rodney took a shot at the net only for it to bang off Simpson's left pad but Sissons was there for the rebound.
Rockford got on the board 12 minutes into the second with a power-play goal by Garrett Ross, making it a 4-1 game.
Tousignant recorded his first goal of the night with nearly three minutes remaining in the second period. With the help of Patrick Cehlin and Captain Scott Ford, Tousignant's goal made it 5-1. Ford's assist was his first of the season.
Five goals came again in the third period, the first from the Admirals newest edition to the team, Jarnkrok, making the score 6-1. A blocked shot from the Hogs' Jeremy Morin at the blue line turned into a breakaway opportunity for the former Grand Rapids Griffin and Jarnkrok was able to get an unassisted shorthanded goal past Simpson, just 59 seconds into the third.
Rockford answered back with a goal at 3:39 from Brandon Mashinter, assisted by Ross and Drew LeBlanc. The fifth overall power-play goal of the night made it 6-2.
Jarnkrok was able to put the Admirals up 7-2 with his second goal of the night at 15:12 off the power-play. He wristed one over the right should of Simpson after Rodney and Forsberg set him up for the play.
The tenth goal of the game and the fourth of the third period came with just over three minutes left by Rockford's Bryan Connelly, making the score 7-3.
Tousignant posted his first career two-goal game when he took a feed from Saponari from behind the Ads net and beat Simpson and pushing the score to 8-3.
The Ads win cooled off a red-hot IceHogs team and gave them just their third regulation loss in their past 17 games.
Never a dull moment between these two teams, Friday's game saw 54 minutes of penalties per team, including six separate fights. Eighty-eight of the games 108 total PIMs came in a wild third period.
The Milwaukee Admirals were also 4/7 on the power-play tonight, setting a new season high for power-play markers.
The IceHogs look to settle the score tomorrow, March 8 as Milwaukee travels to Rockford for a rematch. The Admirals next home game is Wednesday, March 12 vs the Iowa Wild.
