Ads Handle Hogs for Second Straight Night
Rockford, IL--Colton Sissons scored two goals for the second straight game to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 6-2 win over the Rockford IceHogs Saturday night.
Sissons added to his team-leading goal total. He now has 24 goals on the season.
The Admirals got on the board first at 9:39 of the first period. Vinny Saponari pounced upon a loose puck in the left circle of Rockford’s zone and dropped the puck back to defenseman Bryan Rodney at the left point. Rodney’s high shot to the goal was tipped by Sissons and found the back of the net for his 23rd goal of the season. Rodney and Saponari earned the assists.
Rockford’s Pierre-Marc Bouchard tied the game when he stole the puck from Rodney at the Admirals blue line and went unabated toward Milwaukee’s goal. He fired a slapshot from between the circles over the right hand of goalie Marek Mazanec to tie the score at 11:37 of the first period.
Milwaukee reclaimed the lead at 1:27 of the second period. Calle Jarnkrok forced Bouchard intoc fini a turnover and Filip Fosberg skated to the net with no defenders in front of him. Forsberg lifted a shot high into the net for his ninth goal of the season with Jarnkrok garnering the assist.
The IceHogs tied the game. Terry Broadhurst shot the puck from the left wing boards with Mark McNeill skating down the slot. All the commotion caused the Admirals goalie to miss the puck and Broadhurst was awarded his 15th goal of the season after a video replay.
The Admirals again took the lead with 90 seconds left in the second period. Mathieu Tousignant slid a pass from the right corner, along the goal line, to Miikka Salomaki on the left post. He tapped the puck in for his 14th goal of the season with assists going to Tousignant and Scott Valentine.
Milwaukee added another goal in the second period, this time on the power play, when Jarnkrok scored his third as an Admiral in just his second game (16th overall in the AHL). The Admirals enjoyed a five-minute power play after Rockford’s Brad Mills was assessed a major penalty for boarding Tousignant with 48 seconds left in the second period. Jarnkrok’s goal was assisted by Taylor Beck and Forsberg and made the score 4-2 at the second intermission.
The Admirals made it 5-2 when Saponari stole a puck in Rockford’s left corner. He swooped around the net and put a shot on goal. The rebound came to Colton Sissons who buried his 23rd goal of the season at 10:57 of the third period.
Joonas Rask added an empty-net goal with 1:13 left in regulation to ice the win. Assists were awarded to Austin Watson and Scott Ford.
Admirals goalie Mazanec stopped 28 shots to pick up his 11th win of the season.
The Admirals return home to face the Iowa Wild Wednesday, March 12.
