Roadtrip Gets off to Rocky Start
Oklahoma City, OK--Forward Matthew Ford scored two goals to lead the Oklahoma City Barons to a 5-1 win over the Admirals Tuesday night
Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit stopped 23 shots to earn his third win in three games against Milwaukee this season. The Admirals had only four shots on goal in the third period and were outshot in the game 41-24. Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg stopped 36 shots in the loss.
The Admirals scored the only goal of the first period while Milwaukee defenseman Jonathan Diaby was in the penalty box. Joe Pendenza was able to dig the puck out of the left corner of Milwaukee’s zone and sent a pass to Austin Watson on the right wing. Pendenza caught up and joined Watson for a two-on-one break. Watson’s shot from the Barons right circle beat Brossoit. The goal was Watson’s 19th of the season and his first career shorthanded goal. Pendenza notched the assist.
The Barons tied the game in the second period with a Ford goal at 4:02. A delayed penalty was coming against Milwaukee so the Barons pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. The Barons fired several shots on goal before Ford finally buried a rebound.
The Barons claimed its first lead of the game at 2:02 of the third period. C.J. Ludwig’s shot from the left point went over the net but took a bad hop off the glass and landed by Hellberg’s right leg where Andrew Miller taped it in for his 22nd goal of the season.
Oklahoma City made it 3-1 just 53 seconds after taking the lead when Chase Schaber fired a wrist shot from the slot past Hellberg.
The Barons made it 4-1 on a Travis Ewanyk goal with 4:37 to play. Ford scored an empty-net, shorthanded goal with 51 seconds remaining in regulation.
