Admirals Over-Powered by Stars
The Texas Stars scored three power play goals to beat the Milwaukee Admirals Thursday at Cedar Park Center, 4-3.
Texas scored two with an extra man in the first and one in the second, finishing the night three-for-six on the power play.
Milwaukee scored twice in the last three minutes to make it interesting. First, Hugh Jessiman found Andreas Thuresson from the right wing boards at the left circle for a one-timer goal. Thuresson’s 11th of the season came with 2:55 to play. Then, Thuresson returned the favor with 1:33 to go, finding Jessiman from the same spot for his 18th goal of the season.
Greg Rallo scored what proved to be the game-winner with a wrist shot from the high slot that cleared Admirals goalie Chet Pickard’s left glove with 4:35 to play in the game.
Texas scored a pair of power play goals with shots from the blue line to take a first period lead. With Admirals defenseman Scott Ford in the penalty box, Texas d-man Maxime Fortunus fired a shot that was deflected by Aaron Gagnon over Pickard’s left shoulder at 4:00 of the first. Later, with Milwaukee’s Triston Grant in the box, former Admirals blueliner Andrew Hutchinson fired a shot over Pickard’s right shoulder at 13:45.
The Admirals got on the board at 16:28 when Grant hit Fortunus vying for the puck behind the Stars net. Mike Santorelli knocked the puck from behind the cage to the left post. Grant dragged the puck to the right post and hit the water bottle with a shot over a prone goalie, Brent Krahn, for his 11th tally of the season.
The Stars added another power play goal with 4:01 to play in the second period. Francis Wathier was able to knock the rebound of a Rallo shot from the right point under the left leg of Pickard. Wathier’s goal gave Texas a 3-1 lead.
The Admirals continue the three-game roadtrip Saturday night at 7:30 at Houston. Milwaukee’s next home game is Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 pm against the Texas Stars.
