Admirals Bitten by Dogs
Michael Bournival scored twice and goalie Dustin Tokarski stopped 28 shots to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Friday night in Hamilton, ON.
The win snapped Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak against the Bulldogs. The win was Hamilton’s first over the Admirals since Jan. 18, 2012.
The Bulldogs came into the game with the 29th ranked power play in the AHL. However, the home team grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of power play tallies in four first period tries.
Hamilton’s first power play goal came when Michael Bournival slapped a puck into an empty-net after a scramble in Milwaukee’s defensive zone. Nathan Bealieu’s shot from the right point missed the net but caromed off the end wall to the left post for an easy goal for Bournival at 5:23.
The Bulldogs second power play goal was scored at 8:05 of the first period. Greg Pateryn sailed a wristshot from the blue line over the right hand of Ads goalie Marek Mazanec.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 3-0 lead at 8:09 of the second period when Bournival scored a penalty shot goal.
Milwaukee finally got on the board at 12:02 of the second period. Charles-Olivier Roussel sent a pass from the right point to Mathieu Tousignant behind the Hamilton net. Tousignant moved the the right post and found Mike Liambas for a one-timer that beat Tokarski low to the stick side. The goal was Liambas’ third of the season.
Just 1:44 after Milwaukee ended the shutout bid, Hamilton’s Nick Tarnasky slid the puck past Mazanec for his 12th goal of the season.
Taylor Beck scored a 5-on-3 power play goal for the Admirals to make the score 4-2 with 5:07 to play in regulation. His wristshot from the right circle cleared the left glove of Tokarski for Beck’s 13th goal of the season, seventh on the power play. Bryan Rodney and Austin Watson grabbed the assists.
The Bulldogs finished 2/7 on the power play, the Admirals went 1/6.
The Admirals continue a four-game road trip in Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
