Admirals Continue Charge for the Postseason
Milwaukee, WI---With just eleven games remaining in the 2010-11 season the Admirals are kicking it into high gear to secure a position in the post-season. The Admirals will have no fewer than three contests a week for the remainder of their schedule and nine of the remaining eleven will take place on home ice, beginning Tuesday night when they host the Oklahoma City Barons at 7 pm.
Milwaukee currently is a battle for the top spot in a tightly packed West Division, where the first through eighth place are separated by only eight points. When the Houston Aeros won on Sunday it bumped the Admirals down to second place, somewhere the Ads haven’t been since February 19th. Milwaukee still has the upper hand on Houston having played three fewer games thus far.
In order to guarantee a spot in the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs the Admirals will need to finish in the top four in the West Division, or if they have more points than the fourth place team in the North Division they will still qualify, because of the leagues crossover rule. Currently the Admirals magic number to qualify in the West Division is 13, meaning any combination of 13 points earned by Milwaukee or not earned by Oklahoma City, Peoria, or Chicago would secure a playoff spot. If the Admirals were to be tied in the standings for points with another team the first tiebreaker is total wins, not including shoot outs, and then head-to-head points earned.
The Admirals will face eight different opponents in their last eleven games and they are 26-15-5-8 on the season against those teams. The scramble at the end of the season gives the Admirals no more than two days rest between games, but thankfully the Ads can unpack their suitcases and stay off the airplanes as their two trips away from the Bradley Center are to Rockford and Peoria, IL. The Admirals are looking to get comfortable at the Bradley Center, where they are 17-9-2-3 this season, and use some of the home-ice advantage to wrap up the homestretch of the season as champions of the West Division.
Every team the Admirals face the rest of the way out is still mathematically alive in the playoff race. The Admirals kick off this week’s action on Tuesday against the Baron, a team also scratching for a playoff spot as they sit in a tie for fourth place in the West Division. The Admirals still have one game left against first place Houston on Friday, April 1 for a game with potentially huge implications on who wears the West Division crown.
