Penalty Kill Leads Ads to Win
Milwaukee, WI--With goals from Mathieu Tousignant, Colton Sissons and Bryan Rodney, the Admirals roasted the Rockford Icehogs and took home the win 3-1 on Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The win means that if the team beats the Hogs again on Friday night in Rockford they will clinch a berth in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs, the 12th consecutive season the team has made it to the post-season.
Both Marek Mazanec and Jason LaBarbera stood strong for the majority of the first period. Mazanec stopped all five shots from Rockford and LaBarbera only let one in from Mathieu Tousignant. Tousignant came from above the right circle, faked the slapper, and moved into the slot beating LaBarbera stick side at 18:04 giving the Ads the lead 1-0.
In a heated second period, the Ads killed off six penalties and the only goal put up on the board was a goal for the Ads, scored by Rodney at 6:11. He got the puck at the right point and faked past not one but two Rockford defenders and fired it into the net to strengthen the Ads lead 2-0.
Rockford barked back early into the third period with a goal from Mark McNeill at 3:04 and put them on the board 2-1. However Sissons, playing in his first game since being reassigned from Nashville, responded with a power play goal at 13:46, catching a pass from Taylor Beck at the bottom of the far circle, shot, and scored bringing the Ads lead to 3-1.
Mazanec kept Rockford scoreless the rest of the way, stopping 25 of 26 shots for the game. Both Sissons and Rodney tallied two points tonight with a goal and an assist. Jonathan Diaby debuted in his first professional game and earned his first professional point with an assist on Rodney's goal.
