Conacher Leads Ads in Season Finale

Milwaukee, WI--After capturing the West Division and Western Conference regular season title last night, the Milwaukee Admirals closed the door on the 2010-11 regular season with a 4-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday afternoon. Admiral’s center Cory Conacher tallied two goals on the night to pace the offense, while Andreas Thuresson chipped in with a pair of assists.

Ryan Thang started the first period just like he finished last night against the Peoria Rivermen when he scored the game-winner with just 6.5 seconds left in the game. The Ads were on the two-man advantage as the Griffins were defending in their own zone. Roman Josi passed the puck to Chris Mueller who was in the far corner, Mueller than passed the puck into the slot finding Thang. The puck was bounced out, Thang then dove to reach for the puck and backhanded it into the net through goaltender Jordan Pearce’s legs at 6:23.

The Ads continued to feed off the power play success as Conacher tallied his first of the night. Conacher gave the old give ‘n go to Palin at the far dot. Palin supplied the puck right back to Conacher as he ripped a one-timer in the high slot at netminder Pearce at 16:39 for the 2-0 lead. Andreas Thuresson also notched an assist on the power-play maker.

As the second period come along the power play was also a key for the Griffins as they took advantage at 1:42 from Chris Minard. Defender Logan Pyett blasted a shot from the blue line on the far side. Goaltender Atte Engren turned away the shot, but Minard was just on the backside to collect the rebound and squeeze past the Admirals netminder.

Conacher registered his second power-play goal in the third period. Taylor Beck gathered the puck just outside of the crease on the far side and then passed the puck through the slot where he found open Conacher backdoor at 5:41. Thuresson was granted an assist on the play, making it was his second point of the night.

With just seven seconds left in the game Brett Palin scored on an empty-net to seal the deal.

Engren claimed second star of the game turning away 36 shots of the 37 for the win.

The Admirals finish the season with a record of 44-22-6-8 with 102 points and won the West Division title for the fourth time in the past eight years.
