27 Ads Compete For Lord Stanley's Cup
Milwaukee, WI -- The Stanley Cup playoffs begin tonight with 27 Admirals alumni vying for their chance to hoist the Stanley Cup. There are four games tonight including the Admirals parent club the Nashville Predators taking on the Chicago Blackhawks.
There have been 13 Admirals alumni that have helped their team to victory in claiming the Cup, most recently Sheldon Brookbank with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. Other previous winners include Rich Peverly in 2011 with Boston, Craig Darby with New Jersey in 2003 and Marc Crawford who coached the 1996 Colorado Avalanche to a Stanley Cup, in their first year in that city.
This year there are 27 former Admirals competing in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year, 26 players and 1 coach representing 9 of the 16 teams that advanced to the postseason. The Predators have the most alumns with 16, including forwards Kevin Fiala and Collin Wilson, defensmen Cody Franson and Ryan Ellis and netminder Pekka Rinne.
The Blackhawks, Penguins, and Capitals each have two former Ads on the roster, while the Wild, Rangers, Senators, Canucks, and Jets each have one.
Some notable Ads alumni from these teams include defenseman Ryan Suter from the Wild, forwards Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling of Penguins and former Admirals head coach Lane Lambert, who is now an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals.
The Admirals have their final home game of the season on Friday at 7pm as the take on the Toronto Marlies with a post-game concert featuring Great White and Slaughter.
