Ads Top Checkers 5-1 in Home Finale

Milwaukee, WI--Marek Mazanec stopped 29 out of 30 to lead the Admirals to a 5-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Friday night in their final home game of the regular season.

The 5-1 win also included five different Admirals racking up goals throughout the game; Austin Watson, Miikka Salomaki, Filip Forsberg, Taylor Beck and Anthony Bitetto all lit the lamp as the Ads won for the fifth straight time.

Watson brought the heat first for the Ads with 2:27 left in the first by giving the Ads a 1-0 lead. Mark Van Guilder passed towards the goal, reaching Francis Wathier. Wathier quickly passed to Watson who wrapped around the goal and chased the puck down from the bottom of the right circle before he shot and beat Charlotte goalie John Muse.

Salomaki started the second strong with only 2:43 into the period he increased the Ads lead to 2-0. Vinny Saponari grabbed the puck behind the net for the Admirals and passed to the far corner for Mathieu Tousignant. Tousignant passed off to Salomaki on the near dot, Salomaki connected on a one-timer that went right past Muse's legs.

Forsberg scored next with a quick goal about half way through the second. Calle Jarnkrok moved behind the goal for a wrap around that went straight to Forsberg in front of the net and Forsberg blasted it around Muse, increasing the Admirals lead to 3-0 at 8:48 in the second.

Beck kept up the scoring run with 5:26 left in the second as he went one-on-two to increase the Ads lead to 4-0. Bryan Rodney racked up his 29th assist of the season by taking control of the puck at the Checkers right circle and sending a swift pass to Beck, who skated down the ice  with Brett Sutter and Dan Biega. Beck went to the far dot to move around Sutter and shot into Muse's empty right side of the net.

The Checkers Ryan Murphy put them on the board with 10.8 seconds left in the second. Assisted by Aaron Palushaj and Zach Boychuk, Murphy slipped a backhander right around Mazanec to make the score 4-1.

Just 6:04 into the third Bitetto tallied a fifth goal for the Admirals. Jarnkrok broke up Keegan Lowe's outlet and then slid the puck over to Forsberg at the far corner on the goal line. Forsberg saw a lane and fed the puck to Bitetto between the circles. Bitetto shot low and the puck flew past Muse into the net.

Forsberg and Jarnkrok finished the night with two points each as Forsberg had a goal and an assist while Jarnkrok netted two assists.

The Ads will complete their 13-14 regular season and the Amtrak Rivalry Saturday in Chicago at 7:00pm.
