Six Ads Alumni Still Alive for The Cup
Milwaukee, WI--Half the teams in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs are gone, but there are still six Admirals alumni with a chance to raise the sport’s most hallowed prize.
The list includes Chicago Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling and defenseman Kimmo Timonen, Washington Capitals forward Michael Latta and assistant coach Lane Lambert, Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, and New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein.
Teammates Darling and Timonen bookend the chronological gap, with Darling the most recent Ads alum, having played with the team in 2013-14, while Timonen days in Milwaukee were back in 1998-99. Darling set Admiral records with a 2.00 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in his one year with the Ads, going 13-6-2 in 26 contests. Timonen played 29 games in an Admirals sweater, tallying 15 points in the process.
The only non-player on the list, Lambert is one of the most successful coaches in Admirals history, serving four years as the team’s head coach and one as an assistant. He tallied a 178-103-15-24 record as bench boss, recording two 100-point seasons and a Western Conference regular season title in 2009.
Latta played parts of three seasons with the Admirals, 63 points on 23 goals and 40 assists in 128 games. He was third in the team in scoring with 35 points in 2012-13 before being traded to the Capitals at the trading deadline.
Klein has played the most games with the Admirals of the six remaining, logging 220 contests with Milwaukee from 2004-08 and posting 81 points in that time. That is the third most games played by a defenseman in team AHL history.
A native of Madison, Suter skated in 63 games with the Admirals in 2004-05, scoring seven goals and adding 16 assists to go along with a +10 rating.
The Admirals have had 13 former players and coaches hoist the Stanley Cup. The most recent winner was Sheldon Brookbank with the Blackhawks in 2013.
