Preds Open Rookie Camp Sept. 15
Milwaukee, WI--Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that Nashville Predators prospects will report to town on Thursday, Sept. 15, before heading to Coral Springs, Fla., the following day for a Rookie Tournament against teams from the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals from Sept. 16-20 at Panthers Ice Den.
The Predators team, comprised of signed and unsigned draft picks, free-agent signings and free-agent tryouts, will be coached by Admirals Head Coach Dean Evason and Assistant Coaches Stan Drulia and Scott Ford. Among the 22 players scheduled to participate are first-round pick Kevin Fiala (11th overall in 2014) and second-round selections Jack Dougherty (2014), 2016 AHL All-Star Vladislav Kamenev (2014) and Samuel Girard (2016). Also participating will be goaltender prospect Juuse Saros, ranked third among all goaltending prospects in the world by ESPN.
This marks the eighth consecutive rookie camp that Predators prospects have played games against a fellow Sunbelt team, and the fourth straight that a team of rookies has competed in a tournament. Last year’s tournament was hosted by Tampa Bay in Estero, Fla. Predators prospects – along with those from Florida, Tampa Bay and Boston – helped open Ford Ice Center with a rookie tournament in September of 2014 – and those same four teams played a slate of games at Saveology.com Iceplex in Sunrise, Fla., in 2013. Preds prospects have also played two-game sets against the likes of Florida (2011 and 2010), Atlanta (2008 and 2009) and Columbus (2002 and 2003) in recent years. The first four seasons of the franchise (1998-2001), rookies competed in the Traverse City Rookie Tournament.
The games and camp will precede the opening of 2016 Training Camp, which begins Sept. 22, with physicals and team meetings. The Predators’ first day on the ice will be Friday, Sept. 23, at Centennial Sportsplex and they will play six preseason contests from Sept. 27-Oct. 8, including two at home (Oct. 1 vs. Tampa Bay and Oct. 4 vs. Columbus).
