Trevor Smith Named Admirals Captain
Milwaukee, WI-The Admirals announced today that forward Trevor Smith has been named team Captain for the 2
016-17 Season as voted by the team’s players. Defenseman Matt Irwin and forward Mike Liambas will serve as the club’s Alternate C
Signed by Nashville in the off-season, Smith is new to the Admirals but he is no stranger to being a captain in the AHL as he held that role with the Toronto Marlies for two season from 2013-2015. Smith takes over the role from Colton Sissons, who was the Ads Captain last season and made the Predators roster out of training camp.
Smith helped Bern win the Swiss League title in
2015-16, posting five points (3g-2a) in 17 games. Prior to his stint in Europe, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound Ottawa native played 106 NHL games, posting 20 points (9g-11a), and 453 AHL games, amassing 346 points (153g-193a) for the New York Islanders (2006-10), Anaheim Ducks (2010-11), Columbus Blue Jackets (2010-11), Tampa Bay Lightning (2011-12), Pittsburgh Penguins (2012-13), and Toronto Maple Leafs (2013-15).
He won the 2012 Calder Cup Champion with the Norfolk Admirals, tying for the postseason lead in points (5g-11a) after ranking among the AHL’s Top 10 in points (69) and assists (43) in 2011-12, earning him a spot in the AHL All-Star Classic.
Undrafted, Smith spent two seasons at the University of New Hampshire from 2005-07, posting 63 points (31g-32a) in 77 games. In 2006-07, he was a Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Hockey East.
Smith and the Admirals head to San Antonio this weekend to open the regular season on Saturday, October 15 at 7 pm against the Rampage. The Ads commence their home schedule on Saturday, October 29 at 6 pm when they host the Iowa Wild at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
