Admirals Fend Off Heat

Milwaukee, WI--Mark Dekanich turned aside 23 of 24 shots and the Admirals picked up goals from three different players on their way to a 3-1 win over the Abbotsford Heat Saturday night at the Bradley Center. The win was the second straight for the Ads, who will finish off the weekend with a 3:00 matinee Sunday at Chicago.

For the second straight game, center Jamie Lundmark got the Admirals on the board with a power-play goal when he put Milwaukee up 1-0 at 5:49 of the first. Lundmark took a pass from Linus Klasen and fired a one-timer that he didn’t get good wood on, but the puck knuckled and Abbotsford netminder Leland Irving had trouble handling it and it bounced off his shoulder and into the net.

Mark Santorelli put the Admirals up by a pair with his second of the year at 7:42 of the second period on another puck that Irving got a piece of, but couldn’t prevent from getting into the net. Santorelli and Gabriel Bourque came into the zone two-on-one and Santorelli held the puck long enough to freeze Irving and then fired a wrister that deflected off the Heat goalie and into the net.

Abbotsford got on the board just 1:47 into the third period when John Armstrong picked up a loose puck on the boards, skated in on Dekanich and then roofed one over the Admirals goaltender’s shoulder.

Milwaukee would respond just 21 seconds later when Klasen got his AHL-leading sixth goal of the season. Brett Palin fired a shot from the blueline that Klasen deflected past Irving. Andreas Thuresson also earned an assist on the goal, which would be the final goal for either team on the night.

Klasen finished the night with two points, pushing his season total to a team-high eight (6g-2a), while Thuresson and Palin both chipped in with a pair of assists. The win was the third in three starts for Dekanich this season, and his second in as many nights.
