Admirals Look to Win 10 Straight

Milwaukee, WI -The Admirals look to build on their franchise record for consecutive wins as their go for their 10th  straight victory on Friday night when they take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

During their nine game winning streak, the Admirals have jumped to second in the Midwest Division, just three points behind division leading Rockford, who have played three more games than the Admirals. It was just last month when Milwaukee found themselves sitting at number four in the division, winning just three of 12 games in December.

So, what has changed? The Admirals have put an emphasis of simplifying the game and have adopted the adage of “playing the right way”, something that seems so simple but can have a tremendous affect. Playing the right way means taking care of the puck, not making silly turnovers, supporting your teammates and not getting fancy when the puck is on your stick.  A mindset such as this can benefit a team with great skill but such little experience in professional hockey.

The Admirals special teams have also seen a boost in efficiency. The penalty kill has taken an aggressive approach and have only allowed three goals in the last nine games, even scoring a shorthanded goal of their own, their first of the year. Similarly, the power play has seen success by implementing stronger net presence. Having a man down low, being a pest in the slot as proven worthy as the Admirals have scored eight power play goals during the winning streak.

Something that has stayed consistent for the Ads is their terrific goal tending from Magnus Hellberg and Marek Mazanec. Hellberg leads the league in GAA, allowing an impressive 1.84 goals per game. While Mazanec (now called up to Nashville) has a noteworthy save percentage of 0.909.
