Ads Fall Short to Griffins
Grand Rapids, MI- Defenseman Dylan McIlrath scored with 3:42 remaining in the game to lift the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday at Van Andel Arena.
The loss was just Milwaukee’s second in regulation this season (8-2-3-0). The Admirals have a three-game winless streak for the first time this season (0-1-2-0).
After the Griffins won a faceoff, McIlrath received a pass at the right point and slapped a shot into the goal for his first tally of the season at 16:18 of the final period.
The loss spoiled a strong effort from Milwaukee goalie Troy Grosenick. In his first game since Oct. 17, Grosenick stopped 29 shots.
Milwaukee got on the board for the first goal of the game at 5:33 of the second period. Forward Jeremy Gregoire entered the offensive zone 1-on-1 with Griffins defenseman Brian Lashoff. Gregoire powered to the net from the left wing and was able to slide the puck into the net for his second goal of the season. Tyler Gaudet recorded the lone assist.
Grand Rapids knotted the game at 7:46 of the second period. Christoffer Ehn put a rebound of a Matt Puempel shot into the goal for his first marker of the season.
Griffins goalie Harri Sateri stopped 24 shots in the win.
