Ads Stay Hot, Take Down Griffins
Milwaukee, WI--Admirals Captain Trevor Smith scored a pair of goals while Juuse Saros stopped 28 shots to guide the team to a 3-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The win moved the Admirals to 11-2-1-1 on the season and gave them points in nine straight games. For Saros it was his AHL leading ninth win of the season, against just one loss.
Smith got the team off to a quick start with his fourth goal of the season 4:20 into the game. Smith beat Griffins goalie Jared Coreau over the left shoulder with a slapper from the left circle.
Smith's second tally of the night gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead as he converted on power-play opportunity with just over 12 minutes to play in the second period. Kevin Fiala and Freddy Gaudreau assisted on the goal.
Vladislav Kamenev pushed the Milwaukee lead to 3-0 with a power-play marker of his own at 7:33 of the third. Stationed near the right face-off circle, Kamenev held the puck long enough to freeze Coreau before firing a wrister that got by him low glove side.
The Ads hit the road for a game in Rockford on Friday night before returning to the Panther Arena on Saturday to host the Manitoba Moose at 6 pm.
