Admirals Cup Finals Set

Milwaukee, WI—Waukesha defeated Middleton 4-1 and Edgewood topped Homestead 8-5 to advance to the finals of the 2018 Bradley Corporation Admirals Cup, presented by Dr Pepper. The Championship game will take place at Panther Arena at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon. The 3rd place game, featuring Middleton and Homestead will precede the title contest at 11 am.

Both games are free and open to the public.

In other action during the day, Arrowhead defeated Appleton United 6-1 and Verona topped Cedarburg 7-1 to move on to the 5th place game at 2:30 pm at the Kern Center on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Appleton and Cedarburg will play at 12:30 at the Kern.

Waukesha 4, Middleton 1
Waukesha junior forward Chad Larsen tallied two goals and added an assist as the Wings advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win against Middleton. Trenton Tucker added a goal and two assists and Griffin Nickerson had a goal and an apple, while Garrett Larsen made 18 saves to record the win in goal. Middleton’s Cade Armstrong potted the lone goal on the day for the Cardinals.

Arrowhead 6, Appleton United 1
After falling behind 1-0 Arrowhead scored six unanswered goals to cruise to a 6-1 win over Appleton United. Senior Captain Jaxson Carr scored a pair of goals and added two assists to pace the Warhawks offense, while junior forward Tyler Trivett also scored twice and added a helper. Peter Genatempo made 13 saves to secure the win in net. Senior forward Earl Jensen lit the lamp for Appleton, while Gage Olson made 25 saves in net.

Edgewood 8 Homestead 5
Edgewood raced out to a 5-1 lead and held on to take down Homestead 8-5 to advance to the Championship Game. Senior forward Carter Hottmann tallied a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point game to pace the Edgewood offense. Quinn Friedow, Cabe Brown, Teddy Kluesner, Drew Lenz, and Jake Schmaltz all found the back of the net for the Crusaders. Senior forward Jack Curtis led homestead with a pair of goals, while Hank McKeegan finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Verona 7, Cedarburg 1
Verona jumped out a 5-0 lead through two periods as they topped Cedarburg 7-1. Junior forward Mason McCormick and sophomore forward Cale Rufenacht both tallied two goals and two assists to lead the way offensively. Brockton Baker chipped in with four assists in the game while Garhett Kaegi stopped 14 of 15 shots to earn the win in net. Cedarburg’s Nolan Burnside scored the lone goal of the game for the Bulldogs.

This is the 11th Annual Admirals Cup that showcases eight of the state’s top high school hockey programs in the state in a championship style tournament.
