Waukesha Claims Admirals Cup Title
Milwaukee, WI—In a goalies dual that needed extra time to decide a winner, the Waukesha Wings topped the Edgewood Crusaders 2-1 in a shoot-out to capture the Championship of the Bradley Corporation Admirals Cup, presented by Dr Pepper on Saturday afternoon at Panther Arena.
Waukesha Captain Kevin Broda played the hero when he scored in the fourth round of the shoot-out to secure the victory. Wings’ goalie Garrett Larsen finished the game with 17 saves and stopped three of four Edgewood shoot-out attempts to give Waukesha a title in their first appearance in the Admirals Cup Tournament.
Edgewood goalie Ben Cegelski was magnificent in net, turning aside a remarkable 37 saves during regulation and overtime and then two of four Waukesha shooters.
After a scoreless first period Carter Hottmann put Edgewood up with a goal at 6:18. However, Waukesha would tie the game up on a marker by Jacob Arndt at 10:51 and that is the way the score stood until the shootout.
In other action from the final day of the Admirals Cup, Homestead topped Middleton 4-1 to secure third place, while Verona topped Arrowhead and Appleton United defeated Cedarburg 6-5
This is the 11th Annual Admirals Cup that showcases eight of the state’s top high school hockey programs in the state in a championship style tournament.
