Rockford, IL--Mark McNeill scored a goal and assist and goalie Kent Simpson stopped 33 shots to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 2-1 overtime win over the Admirals Wednesday night.
McNeill scored the game winner at 2:15 of overtime as he put in a rebound of a Jeremy Morin shot. The IceHogs were on the power play due to a roughing call against Admirals defenseman Scott Valentine.
The loss spoiled a solid night from Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg. He stopped 29 shots, but his record fell to 3-8-1 with the loss.
Rockford goalie Simpson stopped 33 shots to record the win. Milwaukee outshot Rockford 27-16 through the first two periods but neither team was able to score.
The IceHogs scored the game’s first goal at 7:07 of the third period when McNeill fed a pass to Joakim Nordstrom in the slot. Nordstrom’s quick release found the back of the net.
The Admirals tied the game at 13:31 of the third period. With Rockford on the power play, Admirals defenseman Joonas Jarvinen broke up a play in front of Hellberg and fed a long pass to Taylor Beck in the neutral zone. Beck skated on a breakaway and slid a backhander into the net for his fifth goal of the season, first shorthanded. Jarvinen recorded the lone assist.
The Admirals have lost four overtime games this season. Three of those losses have come from a power play goal.
The Admirals continue a three-game road trip in Charlotte Saturday. The next home game is Friday, Dec. 6th when Milwaukee hosts the Oklahoma City Barons at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
