Milwaukee Sets Tone in Win

The Milwaukee Admirals posted a couple of milestones Saturday night in a 2-1 win at Hamilton.

Milwaukee recorded a season-high 21 shots in the first period and picked up a couple power play goals along the way from Antti Pihlstrom and Janne Niskala to claim a 2-0 lead.

The other milestone was the game marked goalie Pekka Rinne’s 100th game with the Admirals. He is now seven games behind Troy Gamble for seventh place on the Admirals list of games for a goalie. Rich Sirois played in 285 games.

Pihlstrom scored a power play goal to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead at 3:04 of the first period. Matt Ellison sent the puck from the left corner to the top of the left circle for Rich Peverley. Peverley tapped a pass to Janne Niskala in the middle of the blue line. The one-timer was tipped by Pihlstrom past Hamilton goalie Yann Danis for Pihlstrom’s ninth goal of the season and fifth on the power play. Ellison and Peverley recorded the assists.

Niskala’s goal came while the Admirals enjoyed a 5-on-3 power play at 17:17. Cal O’Reilly passed the puck to Pihlstrom, who found Niskala atop the right circle. Niskala’s wrist shot beat Danis high to the glove side for his seventh of the season, fifth on the power play.

The Bulldogs scored a 5-on-3 power play goal of its own at 10:45 of the second period as Marvin Degon’s shot from the top of the left circle beat Pekka Rinne high to the glove side.

Rinne stopped all ten shots from Hamilton in the third to earn his tenth win of the season.

The Admirals play at Toronto Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CST.
