Admirals Take Round 2 Over Checkers
The Milwaukee Admirals smothered the Charlotte Checkers Sunday afternoon and came away with a 2-1 win in Charlotte, NC.
The Admirals allowed a season-low 18 shots on goal. In the second period, Milwaukee allowed a season-low three shots on goal.
Admirals goalie Scott Darling stopped 17 shots to earn his second win of the season.
Milwaukee scored the game-winner at 7:13 of the third period. Zach Budish moved a pass to Kevin Henderson in Charlotte’s right circle. Henderson put a shot to the net that was stopped but Austin Watson backhanded the rebound into the cage for his fifth goal of the season.
Zach Boychuk put the Checkers on the board with just eight seconds left in the first period with a 5-on-3 power play goal from the left circle. Mike Liambas was in the penalty box for charging and goalie Darling was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Milwaukee tied the game at 14:54 of the second period. Vinny Saponari fed a pass from behind the Charlotte goal to Miikka Salomaki in the slot. Salomaki took his time and wristed a shot into the net past the glove of Checkers goalie Rob Madore. Joonas Jarvinen also recorded an assist. The assist was Saponari’s first as an Admiral.
The Admirals return to home ice Friday, Dec. 6th when the team hosts the Oklahoma City Barons at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
