Admirals Sneak Past Wolves in Shootout
Goalie Juuse Saros stopped 37 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Wolves Saturday night.
Saros improved to 2-1 against the Wolves this season as he stopped all three Chicago shooters in the shootout. Saros was very busy in the third period and overtime as he saw a combined 24 shots. Milwaukee’s Kevin Fiala scored the lone goal for either team in the shootout.
Milwaukee’s power play accounted for the only goal of the first period. In the neutral zone, Max Gortz sent a pass from the left wing boards to Frederick Gaudreau who split the defenders at the blue line and went to the net on a breakaway. His backhander was stopped but Vladislav Kamenev put the rebound into the net for his sixth goal of the season at 10:32. It was Kamenev’s third goal on the power play.
The Admirals stretched the lead to two at 12:08 of the second period with a tic-tac-toe passing play completed by Adam Payerl. Conor Allen skated with the puck along the blue line to the left point. He zipped a pass to the right circle for Gaudreau who quickly tapped a pass back to the left post for Payerl to bury for his fourth goal of the season.
Chicago got on the scoreboard when Jeremy Welsh scored his sixth goal of the season after a feed from behind Milwaukee’s goal at 11:49 of the third period.
The Wolves tied the game with a power play goal at 15:53 of the third period when Jordan Caron deflected a shot from Andre Benoit into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
