Grant Helps Herd in Moose

Paced by Triston Grant’s two-goal effort, the Milwaukee Admirals ended a three-game slide by defeating the Manitoba Moose 4-2 at the Bradley Center Saturday night in front of a season high 6,119 fans.

Mike Santorelli’s playmaking abilities were on full display, as the Admirals forward set up three of the four Milwaukee goals.

Manitoba struck first as Mario Bliznak picked off Robert Dietrich’s pass behind the Admirals goal and found Mike Keane in the slot. Feeling pressure from the Milwaukee defense, Keane slid the puck over to an open Pierre-Cedric Labrie who found the back of the net 8:09 into the game, putting the Moose up 1-0.

The Admirals answered 2:27 into the second frame when Tristion Grant slammed a loose puck past Manitoba net minder Daren Machesney. Alexander Sluzer set up the tally by blasting a shot from the near point. Chris Mueller’s rebound attempt was denied, but bounced to Grant who put the puck past a glut of defenders to knot the score at one.

Grant’s second goal of the evening put the Admirals up for good with 4:58 to play in the second period. Sulzer fed the puck to Santorelli who proceeded to fly down the center of the ice and cut to the far boards as he enetered the Manitoba zone. Santorelli sent a pass from the harshmarks across the slot to find Grant crashing the net and sliding the puck past Machesney.

Santorelli set up another goal with just over a minute to play in the second when he chased down a loose puck that Andreas Thuresson sent into the offensive zone. Santorelli corralled the puck in the far corner and once again found an open man in the slot. This time it was Peter Olvecky who beat Machesney, netting his fifth goal of the season.

Protecting a two-goal lead the Admirals played strong defense in the third period, but Manitoba’s Aaron Rome tipped in a shot from the point as he screened Chet Pickard on the power play to make the score 3-2 with 6:27 to play.

Any hopes the Moose had of coming back were eliminated when Santorelli left a drop pass for Hugh Jessiman who’s top shelf slapper lit the lamp just 55 seconds later. Jon Blum also assisted on the play.

Santorelli’s three helpers was his third multi-point game in just his sixth contest of the year for the Admirals. He now totals 11 points (4g-7a) in those six games. Sulzer finished the game with two assists, his second game of the year with multiple helpers.

The Admirals next game is a home tilt with the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, December 11.
