Hogs Power Past Admirals
Rockford, IL--Two power play goals in the third period helped propel the Rockford IceHogs past the Milwaukee Admirals Friday night in Rockford, IL, 5-3.
Trainling 3-1 after two periods, the IceHogs scored four goals in the third period to even the season series with the Admirals at a game apiece. The loss ended a five-game points streak for the Admirals (3-0-1-1).
Rockford snagged the lead midway through the first period. IceHogs forward Peter LeBlanc tipped the puck past Admirals defenseman Joonas Jarvinen at the left point. Rockford’s Rob Flick took the loose puck and skated into the offensive zone. He moved from the right wing boards to the slot and fired a high wristshot into the net at 9:13. LeBlanc and Shawn Lalonde recorded the assists.
The Admirals finally got on the board with a Michael Latta deflection at 11:44 of the second period. Gabriel Bourque sent a pass to Ryan Ellis at the right point. Ellis fired a slapshot to the net that Latta tipped past Carter Hutton to knot the game. Ellis and Bourque recorded the assists on Latta’s third goal of the season.
Bourque gave Milwaukee the lead at 14:24 of the second period. Mattias Ekholm cleared the puck out of the defensive zone to Mark Van Guilder. Van Guilder carried the puck into the offensive zone on the right wing and slowed up as he neared the faceoff circle. He found Bourque trailing in the slot for the pass and Bourque sent a wrister under the crossbar for his third goal of the season. Van Guilder and Ellis notched the helpers.
Victor Bartley extended Milwaukee’s lead to 3-1 when he scored on a backhander from the slot that made its way under the crossbar for his second goal of the season. Kevin Henderson and Ellis recorded the assists.
IceHogs defenseman Nick Leddy scored a power play goal with a slapshot from the left point that changed directions on Milwaukee’s goalie and found the back of the net at 6:19 of the third period to make it 3-2.
Ben Smith tied the game for the IceHogs with a deflection of an Adam Clendening shot at 12:20 of the third period. It was another power play tally for Rockford.
Just 39 seconds later, Brandon Pirri finished an odd-man rush to give the IceHogs a 4-3 lead with his eighth goal of the season.
Martin St. Pierre added an empty-net goal with 26 seconds remaining.
