Hellberg, Ads Shutout Barons

MILWAUKEE-- The Milwaukee Admirals beat the Oklahoma City Baron 4-0 Thursday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Magnus Hellberg earned his first shutout of the year after stopping all 41 shots he faced.

The first goal of the game came on the Admirals second power play opportunity after a too many men on the ice penalty was called on the Barons. Late in the power play the Admirals were working the puck in their offensive zone when Charles-Oliver Roussel got the puck at the point. Roussel found Miikka Salomaki at the right circle who tried putting a shot on net. However, the shot was deflected by Austin Watson and slid past Richard Bachman at 11:35. This would turn out to be Watsons’ third game winning goal in the past three games.

With 8:28 left in the second period Brandon Davidson of the Barons got called for hooking to give the Admirals their third power play opportunity. The Ads had control of the puck in their offensive zone when Vinny Saponari got the puck in the left corner and passed it back to Bryan Rodney at the point. Rodney then found Anthony Bitetto across the ice at the top of the right circle. Bitetto held the puck for a second and then wristed one top right for the second goal of the game with at the 11:51 mark.

The Admirals entered tonight's game just 1-for-their-last-27 on the power-play, but connected on two of three opportunties tonight.

Colton Sissons got the third goal of the game just 4:05 into the third period to give the Admirals a commanding 3-0 lead. The goal came from the passing combination of Rodney and Liambas for the second time of the game.  Rodney made a quick pass from the left point to Sissons at the bottom of the right circle. Sissons thought for a second and then wristed one short side top shelf for his second goal in two meetings with the Barons.

Saponari completed his two-point night with an empty net goal, his first as an Admiral, with 2:34 left in the game.

The Admirals head to Grand Rapids to face the division leading Griffins in back to back games Friday and Saturday night before returning home next Friday for a game against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 pm.
