Admirals Dumped by Griffins
Cory Emmerton recorded a four point night and Tom McCollum stopped 31 shots to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins past the Milwaukee Admirals, 5-0, Saturday night in Grand Rapids, MI.
It was the second time the Admirals have been shut out this season, both times by the Griffins and both by 5-0 scores.
The loss was Milwaukee’s first in regulation when outshooting its opponent (7-1-3-0). The Admirals outshot the Griffins 31-28.
The Griffins claimed an early lead at 2:58 of the first period when Cory Emmerton joined the play after coming off the Griffins bench for a line change. Emmerton was unaccounted for as he skated into the slot in front of Ads netminder Magnus Hellberg. Emmerton received a pass from Teemu Pulkkinen and roofed a shot over Hellberg for his fourth goal of the season.
Grand Rapids’ Calle Jarnkrok made it 2-0 when he picked up a loose puck at the blue line and skated into the slot to fire a shot past Hellberg at 5:22 of the first period.
The Griffins stretched the lead to 3-0 at 3:21 of the second period when Landon Ferraro redirected a shot in the slot past Hellberg’s right leg.
Emmerton scored a shorthanded goal at 5:02 of the second period to give the Griffins a 4-0 edge.
Pulkkinen added a power play goal with 4:06 to play to close the scoring.
Milwaukee finished the game scoreless on nine power play attempts.
Hellberg stopped 23 shots in the loss.
The Admirals return home Friday for a game against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 pm.
