Ads Lose Late Lead in Peoria
Peoria, IL--Three goals in the final 4:34 of regulation pushed the Peoria Rivermen past the Milwaukee Admirals 3-1 Saturday night in Peoria, 3-1.
The loss spoiled a 34-save performance from Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg and dropped the Admirals into fifth place in the Midwest Division.
The game was scoreless through two periods as Hellberg and Rivermen goalie Mike McKenna stopped a combined 43 shots.
Michael Latta started the scoring for the Admirals at 4:04 of the third period. Latta received a pass from Mark Van Guilder and moved into the slot. Latta fired a wristshot over the right catching hand of McKenna.
Soon thereafter, the Ads killed off a 52 second 5-on-3 Peoria power play when Victor Bartley was joined in the box by Jon Blum at 6:18 of the third period.
Peoria tied the game with 4:26 to play when Sergey Andronov deflected a Mark Cundari shot into the net.
With 1:55 to play, Rivermen forward Evgeny Grachev scored the game-winner with a shot from the top of the right circle.
T.J. Hensick added an empty-net goal with 59.1 seconds to play to cap the scoring.
McKenna, a former Admirals goaltender, stopped 26 shots for the win, his second against the Admirals this season.
Milwaukee returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs.
